I am writing to endorse my friend, Steve Toschi, for Mayor of St. Helens.
I was born in Astoria and have spent most of my life living in St. Helens. Over the years, I have made my living working in construction and commercial fishing in Alaska and along the Pacific Coast. After retiring a few years ago, I became more involved in local politics and developed an even stronger interest in the future of our community. I believe strongly that the time has come for a major change in our local government and for new leadership with a vision for where St. Helens needs to go.
I have gotten to know Steve over the past four to five years, and I have known his wife since she was a child. Steve and I initially became friends through our shared love of the outdoors, particularly fishing. Through that friendship, I have come to know Steve as someone who genuinely cares about St. Helens and the people who call it home.
Steve has a real passion for St. Helens and its history. Since his retirement, he has chosen to give his time and experience back to the community, becoming involved in local government through his service on the Planning Commission and Budget Committee.
There are many qualities that make Steve the person I believe St. Helens needs as its next mayor. His education, honesty, strong work ethic, and ability to bring people together are among his greatest strengths. I believe his ability to listen to different viewpoints and work with people, rather than divide them, will be especially important as our community faces difficult decisions.
St. Helens is at an important crossroads. Our community has lost much of the industry that supported this town for generations, and we are facing some very difficult challenges. I believe we need leadership that understands our history but isn’t afraid to look toward the future and make the changes necessary to move our community forward.
Steve has that passion. He cares deeply about St. Helens, and I believe he has the character, experience, work ethic, and ability to bring people together that are needed to help lead our community through this difficult period and toward a stronger and more prosperous future.
For these reasons, I am proud to endorse Steve Toschi for Mayor of St. Helens. I encourage anyone who wants to see our town prosper and believes it is time for new leadership to join me in voting for Steve Toschi.
